Dundee United have strengthened their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of Jordan Amissah, completing a deal that brings the former Burton Albion stopper to Tannadice on a fresh long-term contract.

The club confirmed the 24-year-old has agreed a two-year deal, subject to SFA approval and international clearance, with the agreement running through to the summer of 2028.

Amissah arrives early in pre-season as United continue their squad rebuild, adding direct competition for places alongside Jack Walton and Ruairidh Adams in the goalkeeping department.

Standing at 6ft 6in, the new signing is expected to bring both physical presence and depth to a key position as preparations intensify for the new campaign.

From Germany to Scotland via England

Born in Germany and of Ghanaian heritage, Amissah developed through the academies of Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund, where he was part of an under-17 Bundesliga title-winning squad.

He later moved to England as a teenager, joining Sheffield United at 18 and signing his first professional contract in 2021. Loan spells in the lower leagues followed with Guiseley and Spennymoor Town, before he eventually made his senior debut for the Blades in 2022 against Luton Town.

His international profile also grew during this period, earning a call-up to Ghana’s Under-23 squad for the African Cup of Nations in 2023 following his early senior breakthrough.

A first taste of Scottish football arrived with a loan spell at Ross County, where he impressed during a strong run of form before later returning north in a permanent switch pathway that has now led him to Dundee.

Manager hails “calm and composed” addition

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin has welcomed the arrival of the young goalkeeper, highlighting both his potential and his growing experience across different leagues.

“Jordan is a player we’ve been aware of for some time, and we’re delighted to bring him to Dundee United. He’s still a young goalkeeper but has had experience in League One and, importantly, the Scottish Premiership with Ross County. He’s calm and composed, not only as a player but as a person, and that’s important for me,” Goodwin said.

He also underlined the internal competition the signing is expected to create, with the club keen to raise standards across the squad.

“I’m really excited to see him work with Jack and Ruairidh and watch them push each other every day in training.”

Amissah targets fresh start at Tannadice

For Amissah, the move represents another step in a career already shaped by several countries, loan spells and steady progression through senior football.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here and can’t wait to get going as a Dundee United player,” he said.

“The conversations I’ve had with the Gaffer and the coaching staff have been really exciting, and I wanted to get started as soon as I could.”

He also reflected on his time in Scotland as a key influence in his decision to return north of the border, pointing to his spell at Ross County as a personal highlight.

“My time at Ross County was probably where I played my best football to date, so a move back north of the border really appealed to me, especially with United being such a big club.”

With pre-season underway, Amissah now begins the push to establish himself at Tannadice, aiming to convert potential into a regular starting role in the months ahead.
