Hugo Broos backs Mofokeng to succeed in Belgium after Union Saint-Gilloise move

South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has expressed confidence that rising star Relebohile Mofokeng has what it takes to succeed in European football, backing the youngster to flourish following his move to Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

The veteran Belgian tactician believes the transfer represents the ideal next step in Mofokeng’s development, although he stressed that the talented attacker will need time to adapt to the physical demands of the Belgian top flight.

“It’s a good move for him,” Broos said.

“He’ll improve a lot. He just needs to become stronger physically for Belgian football. Once that comes, there will be no problem.”

Mofokeng’s switch to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning career after establishing himself as one of South Africa’s brightest young talents. The move also gives the 20-year-old the opportunity to test himself in European competition and continue his development in one of Belgium’s most competitive clubs.

Broos, who has closely monitored Mofokeng’s progress with Bafana Bafana, believes the player’s technical ability and football intelligence are already at the required level, with physical adaptation likely to be the final hurdle before he can make a lasting impact.

The South African international is expected to face increased competition for places at Union Saint-Gilloise, who have earned a reputation for developing young talent and competing regularly in European competitions.

Should Mofokeng adapt successfully to the intensity and physicality of Belgian football, Broos is confident the youngster has every chance of becoming a key player for both club and country in the years ahead.
