AS FAR make history with sixth consecutive CAF Women’s Champions League semifinal appearance
Morocco’s AS FAR have reached the CAF Women’s Champions League semifinals for a record sixth consecutive time after defeating Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa 2-0 in their final Group B encounter in Ismailia, Egypt, on Sunday.
Goals from captain Ghizlane Chebbak and Hiba Youssoufi secured victory for the defending champions, who completed their recovery from an opening-day defeat to book their place in the last four.
The Moroccan giants finished the group stage with six points, level with Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Ampem Darkoa, but advanced alongside the Ugandan side on the tiebreaking criteria.
Chebbak and Youssoufi fire AS FAR into semifinals
AS FAR entered the decisive encounter knowing that victory was necessary to keep their title defence on track, while Ampem Darkoa needed only a draw to secure qualification.
The Moroccan side had an opportunity to take the lead before half-time, but Ampem Darkoa goalkeeper Rose Teye Baah saved a penalty to keep the score level.
However, the contest took a decisive turn early in the second half when Baah received a red card following a challenge that resulted in another penalty for AS FAR.
Captain Chebbak converted from the spot in the 59th minute to give the defending champions the advantage.
Youssoufi then sealed the victory with a second goal six minutes into stoppage time, confirming AS FAR’s progression to the semifinals.
Moroccan champions recover from difficult start
AS FAR’s qualification represents an impressive turnaround after they began their campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies on November 2.
The Moroccan side responded three days later with a commanding 6-0 victory over Mali’s USFAS Bamako to revive their qualification hopes.
Their triumph over Ampem Darkoa completed the recovery and ensured they advanced to the knockout stage.
The result also means AS FAR have reached the semifinals in all six editions of the competition since its introduction in 2021, a record unmatched by any other club.
The Moroccan champions previously won the continental title in 2022 and 2025 and will now be targeting a third African crown.
AS FAR face Lekié Football Filles in semifinals
AS FAR will take on Cameroon’s Lekié Football Filles on Wednesday for a place in the final.
In the other semifinal, Kawempe Muslim Ladies will face South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s other representatives, FUS Rabat, endured a difficult first appearance at the competition, exiting the group stage without scoring a goal.
They began with a goalless draw against Lekié before suffering consecutive 3-0 defeats to Egypt’s FC Masar and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The final is scheduled for November 15 at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, where AS FAR will hope to secure their third CAF Women’s Champions League title.
