Edouard Mendy could miss Senegal's game against Belgium

Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is reportedly a major doubt for the Lions of Teranga’s 2026 FIFA World Cup round of 32 encounter against Belgium after travelling to Saudi Arabia for further medical examinations.

The African giants will face Belgium on July 1 in the knockout stage of the tournament currently being hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico, but uncertainty remains over the availability of their first-choice shot-stopper.

Mendy sustained a knee injury during Senegal’s second group stage game against Norway and is yet to fully recover ahead of the crucial fixture.

According to reports, the experienced goalkeeper has temporarily left Senegal’s training camp in the United States to return to his club, Al-Ahli, in Saudi Arabia for additional medical tests and assessment on the injury.

The development has raised serious concerns within the Senegal camp, with fears growing that Mendy could miss the high-stakes showdown against the Belgians.

His potential absence would be a huge blow for the African side given his experience and importance to the team, especially in major international competitions.

Senegal secured qualification to the round of 32 after an impressive group-stage campaign and will now hope Mendy can recover in time to strengthen their chances against one of Europe’s strongest sides.

The Lions of Teranga are expected to monitor the goalkeeper’s condition closely before making a final decision on his availability for the clash.
