Moroccan gaints Wydad AC condemn refereeing decisions in MAS Fes clash
Wydad Athletic Club have strongly criticized the refereeing performance in their Botola Pro encounter against MAS Fes last Thursday.
The Casablanca giants in a statement expressed frustration over the referee’s failure to award what the club described as a “clear penalty” in the opening minute of the match after an alleged handball inside the penalty area.
According to Wydad, the incident was obvious and should have resulted in an immediate spot-kick, with the club voicing shock over the lack of intervention from the refereeing team despite the availability of technology and match officials.
However, Wydad has formally contacted both the Central Arbitration Committee and the National Professional Football League to demand explanations and an investigation into the controversial decision.
The club argued that the failure to award the penalty directly influenced the outcome and flow of the game while also raising concerns about consistency in officiating standards within the Moroccan top flight.
Wydad further stated that such refereeing decisions threaten the principles of fairness, equal opportunity and the integrity of the competition.
“The failure to award the penalty was an unjustified refereeing decision that directly affected the course of the match,” the statement noted, while questioning how incidents of that nature continue to go unpunished.
The former African champions also called on football authorities in Morocco to take concrete measures to ensure the proper implementation of the Laws of the Game and improve refereeing standards moving forward.
Despite their anger, Wydad reiterated their respect for football institutions and affirmed their confidence in the official procedures, while making it clear that the club reserves the right to defend its interests through all available channels.
The incident has already sparked widespread debate among supporters and analysts, adding further scrutiny to officiating standards in the Botola Pro during the closing stages of the season.
