CAF set to hold inter-club competition draw

Confederation of African Football will hold the official draw for next season’s CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup in Morocco, according to multiple media reports.

The decision reflects CAF’s growing preference for Morocco as a host nation for major football events, driven by its modern infrastructure, organizational stability, and recent experience staging continental tournaments.

The draw will determine the preliminary round fixtures for both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup campaigns, which are set to begin on September 4. The early organisation of the draw is intended to give participating clubs adequate time to prepare for the demanding continental schedule.

Among the clubs expected to feature in the new season are Egyptian giants Zamalek SC and Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League, while Al Ahly SC are reportedly set to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup, adding further intrigue to the competition structure ahead of the new campaign.

As per reports, the continental football governing body is targeting a date before August 10 to conduct the draw ceremony, aligning it with broader preparations for the upcoming season. The scheduling is designed to ensure a smooth transition between qualification rounds and the start of continental competition, while also avoiding congestion in the international football calendar.

Registration for participating clubs is expected to close by July 25, marking the final confirmation stage for teams across Africa’s top club competitions. This deadline will allow CAF to finalise the list of contenders and complete logistical arrangements ahead of the draw.

Significantly, the draw is also expected to be staged on the sidelines of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which Morocco will host from July 26 to August 16. CAF officials reportedly see this as an opportunity to align men’s and women’s competitions while showcasing Morocco’s growing role as a hub for African football.

By combining events and centralizing key ceremonies in Rabat, CAF continues to reinforce Morocco’s position as one of the continent’s leading football destinations, both in terms of infrastructure and international hosting capability.

With the new season approaching rapidly, anticipation is already building among clubs and supporters as Africa’s elite prepare for another highly competitive campaign across both the Champions League and Confederation Cup.
