Morocco sealed their place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Haiti on Wednesday in Atlanta.

The Atlas Lions confirmed progression from the group stage, but they were made to work extremely hard as Haiti produced a spirited performance in a dramatic encounter filled with momentum swings and key turning points.

Early setback as Bono’s own goal shocks Morocco

Morocco endured a nightmare start when goalkeeper Bono inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 10th minute, handing Haiti a surprise lead and immediately shifting pressure onto the African side.

Despite the early blow, Morocco responded with intent and began to push forward in search of an equaliser, with Bilal El Khannouss testing the Haitian defence in the opening stages.

Hakimi levels after VAR confirms equaliser

The breakthrough for Morocco arrived in the 39th minute when Achraf Hakimi reacted quickest inside a crowded penalty area to poke home from close range after a chaotic sequence.

There was a brief VAR check, but referee Danny Makkelie confirmed no infringement, allowing the goal to stand and restoring parity at 1-1.

Haiti strike back with stunning long-range goal

Haiti refused to be intimidated and reclaimed the lead in spectacular fashion when Wilson Isidor unleashed a powerful strike from distance that flew into the top corner, leaving Morocco stunned.

The goal reignited the contest and placed Morocco under serious pressure heading into the final stages of the first half.

Morocco respond before half-time through Saibari

Morocco hit back almost immediately before the break. Achraf Hakimi played a key role once again, providing the assist for Ismael Saibari, who finished confidently to make it 2-2 just before half-time.

The equaliser ensured the match remained finely balanced going into the second half.

Rahimi seals decisive breakthrough in the second half

After a tense and competitive restart, Morocco eventually found the winning goal in the 78th minute. Soufiane Rahimi reacted fastest to a loose ball inside the box and guided his finish into the corner to put the Atlas Lions ahead for the first time in the match.

From there, Morocco managed the game effectively, controlling possession and closing out the contest to secure all three points.

Morocco advance after testing Haiti challenge

At the final whistle, Morocco confirmed their qualification for the Round of 32 after surviving a major scare. While Haiti impressed with their resilience and attacking moments, the Atlas Lions ultimately showed their quality in key moments to claim a dramatic 4-2 victory and continue their World Cup campaign.

In Group C, Brazil who finished above Morocco on goal difference are also through to the Round of 32.
