Danny Makkelie Named Referee for Morocco vs Haiti

Dutch referee Danny Makkelie has been selected by FIFA to officiate Morocco’s final Group C match against Haiti at the 2026 World Cup.

The Atlas Lions will face Haiti on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at 22:00 GMT at Atlanta Stadium, with the FIFA Referees Committee choosing Makkelie as the man responsible for overseeing the important encounter.

Makkelie is one of Europe’s most experienced officials and has previously taken charge of major fixtures, including matches in the Champions League, the European Championship and the World Cup.

His appointment reflects FIFA’s confidence in the Dutch referee’s experience and ability to manage a high-profile international fixture.

The 43-year-old will not be working alone, with FIFA also selecting a Dutch officiating team to support him during the match.

Hessel Steegstra and Jan de Vries, both from the Netherlands, will serve as assistant referees, creating an all-Dutch trio for Morocco’s meeting with Haiti.

The officials are familiar with working together and will be responsible for ensuring consistency and control throughout the match between the Atlas Lions and Haiti.

Portuguese referee João Pinheiro has been appointed as the fourth official, while his compatriot Bruno Jesus will take the role of reserve assistant referee.

The Portuguese duo completes the refereeing team that will oversee the Group C fixture in Atlanta.

Morocco will enter the match looking to secure a positive result and continue their World Cup campaign, while FIFA’s chosen officials will aim to ensure the focus remains on events on the pitch.

With an experienced referee and a team of officials from two respected European football nations, preparations are complete for the Atlas Lions’ final group-stage match against Haiti.
