World Cup 2026: Ivory Coast sweat over Wilfried Singo injury setback
Ivory Coast are anxiously awaiting updates on the condition of defender Wilfried Singo after the centre-back suffered an injury during their World Cup clash against Germany.
The Elephants were dealt a major scare in their second Group Stage match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup currently taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Singo forced off after picking up a thigh problem during the encounter.
The injury has now cast doubt over the defender’s participation for the remainder of the tournament as Ivory Coast prepare for a decisive phase of their campaign.
According to reports from Ivorian media, the former Torino defender is expected to undergo extensive medical examinations on Monday, 22 June, to determine the seriousness of the injury.
While the national team continues to await official confirmation, early reports have raised fears that the injury could be significant. Some sources have suggested that Singo may face up to three months on the sidelines if the damage proves severe.
Such a setback would represent a huge blow for both Ivory Coast and the player, who has been one of the team’s key defensive figures in recent years.
The 25-year-old has played an important role in the Elephants’ defensive setup thanks to his physical strength, pace and versatility at the back.
His possible absence would leave the Ivorians with a major defensive challenge as they continue their quest to progress at the global showpiece.
The Ivorian technical team is expected to provide further updates once the medical assessments are completed.
