Ivorian winger Simon Adingra set for Sunderland return as Monaco decline permanent transfer
Ivory Coast international Simon Adingra is expected to return to Sunderland ahead of the new season after Monaco reportedly decided against making his loan move permanent.
The Ivorian winger joined the Ligue 1 side on loan from Sunderland during the February transfer window, but his stay in the French top flight now appears set to come to an end.
According to reports from Nice-Matin, Monaco have no intention of activating the €15 million buy-out clause included in the agreement for the 23-year-old attacker.
Adingra is therefore expected to head back to Sunderland, where he remains under contract until 2030 and could continue his career in the Premier League.
Despite showing flashes of quality during his time in France, the winger was unable to fully convince Monaco to invest permanently in his services.
Since arriving at the Principality club during the second half of the 2025–2026 campaign, Adingra registered three goals and two assists in 14 Ligue 1 appearances.
The former Union SG player remains highly regarded for his pace, dribbling ability and attacking versatility, qualities that could still make him an important figure for Sunderland moving forward.
His return is expected to boost Sunderland’s attacking options as the English side prepares for the upcoming Premier League season.
