Former Brazil international Vampeta has claimed that Morocco were the better side in their 1-1 draw against the Seleção in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Group C encounter, played on Saturday evening Eastern Time, saw both teams share the points, but the ex-midfielder believes the Atlas Lions deserved more from the game.

The match saw Morocco take the lead through Ismail Saibari, who finished calmly in a one-on-one situation with Alisson Becker in the 21st minute. Brazil responded soon after, with Vinicius Junior producing a brilliant equaliser in the 32nd minute after a sharp run into the box.

Vampeta Backs Morocco’s Performance
Speaking on Brazilian network JP Esportes, Vampeta praised Morocco’s overall display, suggesting they controlled large parts of the match and showed greater quality in possession.

“If you look at the whole context of the match, and at what Morocco offered in terms of quality and ball possession, they deserved better luck than a draw,” he said.

Criticism of Ancelotti’s Selection Decisions
The former Brazil midfielder also questioned Carlo Ancelotti’s team selection, particularly his decision not to include young Real Madrid striker Endrick in the matchday setup. Vampeta suggested the player’s absence was difficult to understand given the expectations surrounding him.

“I think Ancelotti could have included Endrick in the match. I don’t understand this refusal, or the unwillingness to rely on him,” Vampeta added.

World Cup Context in Group C
Morocco and Brazil share Group C alongside Scotland and Haiti, with the group already producing early drama in the opening round. Scotland secured a 1-0 win over Haiti in the other fixture.

Brazil remain focused on chasing a sixth World Cup title, while Morocco continue to build on their historic run at Qatar 2022, where they became the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals.
