Jean Michaël Seri linked with potential move to MLS
Ivorian midfielder Jean Michaël Seri could be heading to the United States, with Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union reportedly showing interest in signing the experienced midfielder.
Although Seri remains under contract with Slovenian club NK Maribor until June 2027, his future may not lie in Slovenia for much longer as interest from across the Atlantic begins to grow.
The 34-year-old, who is currently part of Ivory Coast’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, is attracting attention from Philadelphia Union, a club understood to be closely monitoring his situation. The MLS franchise is said to value the experience and stability the midfielder could bring to its squad.
At this stage, however, discussions have not progressed beyond an initial inquiry. Philadelphia Union are reportedly assessing the possibility of a move and gathering information before deciding whether to submit a formal offer.
Seri’s extensive experience in European football is viewed as one of his major assets. The midfielder has built a reputation as a composed and reliable presence in the centre of the pitch, qualities that continue to make him an attractive option despite being in the latter stages of his career.
His involvement with the Ivory Coast national team at the 2026 World Cup has also placed him in the spotlight, providing further visibility at a time when clubs may be assessing potential additions to their squads.
Financially, a transfer could prove attainable for interested clubs. According to Transfermarkt, Seri’s market value is currently estimated at €100,000, making him a relatively affordable option for teams seeking experience and leadership in midfield.
The key question now is whether NK Maribor would be willing to part with the player before the end of his contract. While interest from the United States appears genuine, no official offer has yet been made and the situation remains at an early stage.
For the moment, Seri remains focused on his international commitments with Ivory Coast, while speculation over a possible MLS move continues to gather attention.
