Kaizer Chiefs Ladies strengthen promotion push with emphatic win over Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies moved closer to securing promotion to the elite league with a convincing 4-1 victory over Emmarentia Pirates in the Sasol Gauteng Women’s Provincial League at Naturena Village on Saturday.

The result gave coach Unathi Mabena’s side a fourth consecutive victory and continued an impressive run of form that has strengthened their promotion prospects for next season.

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, also known as Amakhosazana, had narrowly defeated Future Stars Ladies 1-0 in their previous match at Qedelizwe Secondary School last Sunday. They followed that result with a far more commanding display on home soil, scoring four times and conceding only once across their past four matches.

Lumka Qhekeka set the tone for the hosts by opening the scoring just three minutes into the game. Tshiamo Kekana then doubled the advantage in the 14th minute, giving Kaizer Chiefs Ladies a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The home side continued to control the contest after the interval. Nonhlanhla Maci added a third goal in the 67th minute before Zanele Kunyamne completed the scoring 10 minutes later.

The win took the Naturena Village outfit to 43 points from 20 matches. Their record now stands at 14 victories, four draws and two defeats.

The latest result came on the same day that Kaizer Chiefs’ men were held to a 1-1 draw by Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium. While the men were forced to settle for a point in their heavyweight encounter, Mabena’s team produced another important result in their bid to reach the elite division next season.

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies’ recent sequence has also provided a significant boost to their goal-scoring record. Their four goals against Emmarentia Pirates took their total to 11 in their last four league matches, while they have conceded just once during that period.

The victory was particularly emphatic given the speed with which the hosts established control. Qhekeka’s early strike put Pirates under immediate pressure, and Kekana’s goal soon afterwards ensured Kaizer Chiefs Ladies held a comfortable advantage before the break.

Maci’s effort in the second half removed any prospect of a comeback, while Kunyamne’s late goal underlined the strength of the home side’s performance.

With four successive wins behind them, Kaizer Chiefs Ladies have maintained their momentum at a crucial stage of the campaign. Their latest success at Naturena Village leaves them on 43 points and further improves their position in the race for promotion.
