Cape Verde football shaken by sexual assault allegations during FIFA Series
Cape Verdean football has been shaken by allegations of sexual assault linked to the national team during the FIFA Series tournament held in New Zealand last March.
The incident has placed the Blue Sharks under intense scrutiny after a formal complaint was reportedly filed on April 10, triggering an investigation into the matter.
The allegations have created significant concern around the national team and cast a shadow over the country’s recent football progress.
At this stage of the investigation, the identity of the player allegedly involved has not been made public. Authorities are continuing their inquiries while maintaining confidentiality around the case.
The alleged incident occurred during Cape Verde’s participation in the FIFA Series competition in New Zealand, an international tournament that brought together several national teams for friendly matches and development opportunities.
The case has generated widespread attention within Cape Verdean football circles, with supporters and officials now awaiting further clarification as investigations continue.
The situation has also placed additional pressure on the national federation as it attempts to manage the fallout from the allegations.
The Blue Sharks had recently earned praise for their performances on the pitch and their growing reputation in African football.
However, the emergence of the allegations has shifted focus away from sporting matters and towards the ongoing legal and disciplinary process.
Neither the federation nor the authorities have publicly disclosed further details regarding the complaint, while the investigation remains active.
As the process unfolds, the case is expected to remain closely followed both in Cape Verde and internationally.
Football officials are now waiting for the relevant authorities to establish the facts surrounding the allegations before any further action is taken.
The affair has nevertheless already caused reputational damage to the national team, with uncertainty continuing to surround the case as investigations proceed.
