Iborra urges patience and support for struggling Levante striker Etta Eyong
Levante assistant coach Vicente Iborra has stepped in to defend striker Etta Eyong, who is enduring a difficult spell in front of goal after emerging as one of the surprise stars of the season.
The Cameroonian forward, who first caught the eye at Villarreal before shining at Levante, has seen his scoring touch desert him in recent weeks, prompting questions over his form.
Iborra played down the alarm and stressed how important it is to stand by the young attacker during this period. “The fact that he’s not scoring the goals we all want doesn’t mean he’s doing badly or training poorly. We’re all human and go through better and worse moments,” he explained, underlining that dips are part of the game. He added that the staff are focused on giving Eyong the right support every day, noting: “You have to understand when a player needs affection or help. Day by day, we’re doing just that.”
The coach pointed out that even in his last outing, Eyong contributed by creating chances and offering solutions in attack, insisting that the goals will come if he keeps believing.
Iborra also reflected on the striker’s rapid rise from youth football to the professional stage and reminded everyone that every career comes with highs and lows that players must learn to handle.
