Alphonso Davies a fitness concern ahead of Heidenheim clash

Alphonso Davies has given Bayern Munich a fresh headache ahead of their Bundesliga meeting with Heidenheim after training away from the main group on Thursday.

Following the dramatic Champions League night in Paris, new doubts have emerged over the Canadian’s fitness. As reported by Bild, the left-back was unable to take part in regular team training and instead completed an individual 40-minute session.

The exact reason for his reduced workload is still unclear. Davies was substituted at half-time in the 5-4 semi-final first-leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, despite his blistering pace being one of Bayern’s key weapons against the French side’s attack. It remains to be seen whether Thursday’s lighter programme was simply part of load management or a response to a physical issue picked up in Paris.

Coach Vincent Kompany is expected to provide more clarity during his press conference on Friday morning at 10:00. With crucial games piling up, Bayern can ill afford to lose a player of Davies’ profile on the left flank. His availability for both the Heidenheim game and the Champions League return leg could prove vital to the club’s end-of-season ambitions.
