Wydad to appoint a new head coach

Wydad Athletic Club are reportedly preparing to dismiss head coach Patrice Carteron after a disappointing run of results, with two Arab coaches already identified as potential successors.

Pressure has intensified following Wydad’s latest setback, a 2-1 home defeat to Ittihad Yaacoub El Mansour in the 17th round of the Moroccan league. The loss further deepened concerns within the club’s hierarchy, particularly as Carteron has failed to secure a single victory in five matches since taking charge on March 24.

During his brief tenure, Wydad have suffered defeats to Fath Union Sport, Maghreb Fez, and Ittihad Yaacoub El Mansour, while only managing draws against Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi and Kawkab Marrakech.

According to local reports, a decisive meeting between Carteron and Wydad officials is expected within hours, where the club could formally end his tenure.

In anticipation of a potential departure, Wydad have already begun evaluating replacements. Nasreddine Nabi and Mohamed Benchrifa have emerged as the leading candidates to take over the role if the Frenchman is relieved of his duties.

Wydad currently sit fourth in the league standings with 31 points from 17 matches. However, their position remains under threat, as RS Berkane, just one point behind in fifth place, could overtake them depending on upcoming results.

With expectations still high, the club faces a critical decision as it looks to steady its season and remain competitive in the title race.
