Chelsea’s FA Cup semifinal triumph reward for unity amid turmoil – Belgian-Ghanaian Romeo Lavia
Romeo Lavia has credited Chelsea’s resilience and unity for their progress to the FA Cup final, describing the semifinal victory over Leeds United as a timely reward after a turbulent week at the club.
The win at Wembley came just days after the dismissal of former manager Liam Rosenior, a development that had placed the squad under intense scrutiny.
Lavia, who is of Ghanaian heritage, emphasised that the players remained focused despite external distractions, drawing strength from within to deliver a composed and determined performance on the big stage.
Chelsea’s display against Leeds was seen as a response to recent setbacks, with the players channeling disappointment into renewed intensity.
Lavia pointed to the squad’s reaction following an underwhelming midweek performance, insisting it was crucial to correct their shortcomings at Wembley.
“Sometimes when you have a few results that don’t go your way, you feel like everything is against you. The reality is that as long as we stick together, it will turn around in the end, especially given the quality of the team.
“It was good for the team, and you can see that we worked hard to get it right after Tuesday, which, as a team, we thought was unacceptable; it was important to get it right at Wembley. We used that frustration heading into the next game to try to get it right, and we did that against Leeds.”
Attention now turns to the final, with caretaker coach Calum McFarlane tasked with guiding the team to silverware.
Lavia expressed confidence in the interim boss and the squad’s ability to adapt quickly in pursuit of success.
“It’s just about adapting to what has happened and trying not to look at the past and moving forward as soon as possible,” he said.
