Cameroon Keeper Onana urges focus after Trabzonspor defeat to Konyaspor
Cameroon international Andre Onana struck a defiant tone following Trabzonspor’s defeat to Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig clash on Monday.
Onana played full throttle of the match, as Trabzonspor succumbed to a 2-1 away defeat top Konyaspor in matchday 31 clash.
The shot stopper, speaking in the aftermath of the defeat, chose not to hide behind excuses. Instead, he acknowledged the strength of the opposition while underlining the progress Trabzonspor have made this season despite competing against financially stronger rivals.
“We were well aware of the importance of the match; we faced a strong opponent,” Onana admitted. “When you look at the transfer spending of Galatasaray SK and Fenerbahce SK, you can see that Trabzonspor have had a good season.”
Despite the disappointment of the result, Onana emphasized unity and resilience within the squad, pointing to a collective determination to keep pushing forward. For him, the defeat is not a moment to linger on, but a reminder of the competitive level required at the top of Turkish football.
“Today, we wanted to win but it didn’t work out. We must continue our fight. Everything is about the present and the future. The past is in the past; we must look to the future,” he added, reinforcing a mindset centered on growth and consistency.
His remarks reflect a broader belief within the Trabzonspor camp—that while results may fluctuate, the team is building something sustainable. Competing with heavyweights backed by significant financial power has not been easy, yet Trabzonspor have remained competitive throughout the campaign.
As the season enters its decisive phase, Onana’s leadership and mentality could prove vital. His focus on resilience and forward-thinking may well shape how Trabzonspor respond, as they aim to finish strongly and carry momentum into the future.
