‘I’m really happy’ – Alexander Isak reacts to scoring on injury return
Alexander Isak expressed his satisfaction after netting his first Premier League goal for Liverpool since his return from injury, marking a significant personal milestone in the club’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Swedish forward, who has been working his way back to peak condition following fitness struggles, seized his moment in a lively attacking display at Anfield.
His goal not only helped secure the three points but also offered a timely boost in confidence as he continues to rediscover rhythm and sharpness in front of goal.
Reflecting on the strike, Isak admitted the finish required instinct and quick adjustment.
“I felt like that shot was not going in so I kind of intercepted it and it became a good touch. Then I managed to put it into the back of the net,” he said.
For the 26-year-old, the goal represented more than just a contribution to the scoreline.
“I’ve been battling getting back to full fitness and obviously scoring a goal is probably the best way to finding your form again. Obviously I’m really happy,” he added.
Beyond his own contribution, Isak was quick to acknowledge the performance of goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who impressed with a composed display between the posts.
Drafted into the starting lineup, Woodman delivered a series of assured interventions that underpinned Liverpool’s control of the contest.
“I think he did absolutely brilliantly,” Isak noted. “It’s never easy to come in, especially in a position like him where you have to be ready but it’s not often you get the chance.”
Despite conceding once, Woodman’s overall showing drew praise from teammates, with Isak suggesting the goalkeeper merited even greater reward.
“It’s really big from him to be able to put on a performance like this. I think he deserved a clean sheet. But a really big performance from him.”
