FIFA seeks answers from FKF over leadership shake-up, sets May 1 as deadline

World football governing body FIFA has formally written to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), confirming it is reviewing the controversial decision to ask key officials to step aside and demanding detailed explanations by May 1.

The move follows a resolution reportedly adopted around April 24 by FKF’s National Executive Committee, which saw federation president Hussein Mohamed, acting general secretary Dennis Gicheru, and a nominated NEC member temporarily relieved of their duties.

In its correspondence, FIFA said it is working in coordination with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to establish a clear understanding of the circumstances surrounding the decision and whether it complies with FKF statutes.

Central to FIFA’s inquiry is whether due process was followed. The global body has specifically asked FKF to confirm if the affected officials were given an opportunity to defend themselves before the resolution was passed—an essential requirement under the federation’s governing rules.

FIFA is also seeking clarification on how the matter was introduced for deliberation, including any formal proposal submitted to place the motion for provisional dismissal on the NEC agenda. Additionally, it has requested documentation relating to the convening of the meeting, quorum and voting records, and any supporting materials used to justify the decision.

The letter underscores the seriousness with which both FIFA and CAF are treating the situation, warning that a comprehensive review is underway. FKF has been urged to submit all relevant documents, correspondence, and records to assist in the assessment.
