Jeremy Doku vows to shoot more after semi-final heroics
Jeremy Doku reflected on Manchester City’s dramatic 2-1 FA Cup semi-final comeback victory over Southampton, revealing his determination to become more clinical in front of goal.
The Belgian-Ghanaian winger’s long-range effort sparked City’s revival at Wembley, though the strike took a deflection before finding the net.
Speaking to the BBC after the match, Doku expressed his excitement about reaching another final. “Every time you reach the final, you’re like, wow, what a journey it has been. Reaching the final again is unbelievable,” he stated.
The 24-year-old acknowledged he analyzed the first-half action from the bench before making his impact. “I was analysing the game in the first half. We were playing in the middle a lot. I knew that I had to bring a threat and make it uncomfortable for the full-backs,” Doku explained.
Addressing his tendency to prioritize passing over shooting, the winger admitted he needs a mindset shift. “Everybody tells me I need to be more selfish. When I have the ball, the first thing I think is ‘who is free?’ Instead of ‘where is the goal?’ I have to be more selfish in those moments,” he remarked.
Nico González sealed City’s victory with a spectacular long-range strike, sending the Citizens into their fourth consecutive FA Cup final.
