Aurélien Tchouaméni ruled out of Real Betis clash

French midfielder of Cameroonian descent Aurélien Tchouaméni has been ruled out of Real Madrid’s La Liga clash against Real Betis.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder is suffering from a left calf issue linked to overexertion, making him unavailable for the match scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026.

The club’s medical team have opted for caution, with the decision made to rest him in order to prevent the injury from worsening.

Tchouaméni’s absence is understood to be a precautionary measure rather than a serious injury layoff. Internal discussions reportedly raised concerns that continuing to play could significantly aggravate the strain and potentially put his long-term availability at risk.

With major international commitments on the horizon, including preparations for the FIFA World Cup, Real Madrid have chosen to protect the midfielder by keeping him in Madrid rather than risking him in the Betis fixture.

Interim decision-making within the coaching setup saw Tchouaméni left out of the squad entirely, with fitness and long-term availability prioritized over short-term needs. The club is determined not to lose one of its key midfield anchors at a crucial stage of the season.

Alongside him, Dani Ceballos is also expected to miss the match, though his absence is believed to be more tactical than medical.

The double absence comes at a difficult time for Madrid, who are already navigating a tight title race. Sitting second in La Liga with 73 points after 32 matches, they trail leaders Barcelona by nine points.

The squad will now be forced to rotate and adjust midfield roles, placing additional responsibility on remaining senior players to maintain balance and control.

While Tchouaméni’s injury is not considered long-term, his workload management will be closely monitored in the coming weeks. Real Madrid remain determined to ensure he returns fully fit for the decisive stretch of the season.

For now, caution has taken priority over competition, as Madrid weigh every decision carefully in their pursuit of silverware.
