Werder Bremen sweat over Justin Njinmah fitness before Stuttgart trip

Werder Bremen face a nervous wait over the fitness of Justin Njinmah ahead of Sunday’s away match at VfB Stuttgart.

The 25-year-old German-Nigerian attacker already missed full team training on Thursday and completed only an individual session, raising doubts about his availability.

Coach Daniel Thioune struck a cautious tone when asked about Njinmah’s condition in the pre-match press conference. “You probably noticed yesterday that Justin Njinmah couldn’t train on the pitch. He’s having a few problems. We’ll have to see if he returns to training today,” the coach explained to the media. While the club initially framed his absence as simple workload management, Thioune’s latest comments suggest more concrete physical issues.

The decision on whether Njinmah will be included in the squad is expected to be made at short notice, based on how he responds in the final training sessions on Friday and Saturday. “We’ll be looking at training today and tomorrow,” Thioune continued. An absence would hit Werder hard, with the attack already weakened by Marco Grüll’s suspension.

If Njinmah is passed fit in time, he is set to play a key role in Bremen’s fast-transition game, where his pace and direct runs are especially valuable against Stuttgart. Thioune plans to wait until the final session before making a definitive call on the forward’s involvement.
