Wydad officially appoint former player Abdelatif Noussir as assistant coach
Wydad Casablanca have officially brought back one of their own, appointing former player Abdelatif Noussir as assistant coach to head coach Patrice Carteron in a move designed to steady the team during a challenging phase of the season.
The decision comes at a time when Wydad are struggling to translate their identity onto the pitch, with recent performances falling short of expectations in the Botola Pro.
Rather than introducing further disruption, the club’s hierarchy has opted for continuity by turning to a figure who understands the dressing room, the culture, and the demands of the badge.
Noussir, now 36, returns to the senior setup after overseeing the club’s second team, where he impressed with both results and player development. His new role is expected to position him as a key link between Carteron and the squad, helping to improve communication and restore confidence both on and off the field.
A former defender, Noussir enjoyed a successful playing career with Wydad, winning three Botola Pro titles and playing a role in the club’s CAF Champions League triumph in 2017.
His familiarity with the club’s winning mentality is seen as a valuable asset as Wydad look to regain consistency.
Once again, Wydad are placing their trust in former players to help guide the team through adversity. Noussir’s task is clear: help rebuild the structure, reintroduce the club’s distinctive style, and support Carteron in steering the Reds back on track.
With his experience and deep connection to the club, there is a growing belief that this internal solution could spark a turnaround in the weeks ahead.
