CAF sets August 6 for 2026/27 Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary draws

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set August 6, 2026, as the tentative date for the preliminary round draws of the 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The draw ceremony is expected to take place in Cairo, Egypt, as clubs across the continent begin preparations for another season of African inter-club football.

The preliminary round draw will determine the opening pairings for teams competing in Africa’s premier club competitions, with champions and cup representatives from various member associations set to discover their continental opponents.

The 2026/27 campaign is scheduled to begin in September, with the first preliminary round first-leg matches set for September 4–6, followed by the return fixtures from September 11–13.

The second preliminary round is scheduled for October, with the group stage phase expected to follow later in the season.

For clubs across Africa, the preliminary rounds represent the first major hurdle on the road to continental glory.

The CAF Champions League remains the continent’s flagship club competition, attracting league champions and top-ranked teams from across Africa, while the Confederation Cup provides another pathway for clubs seeking continental success.

The upcoming draw will be closely monitored by clubs and supporters, particularly those representing emerging football nations, as teams look to secure favourable match-ups and begin their campaigns on a strong note.

CAF is expected to release further details, including the official draw procedures, seeding arrangements and broadcast information, ahead of the ceremony.
