USM Alger have reached the final of the CAF Confederation Cup after overcoming OC Safi in the semi-finals, setting up a decisive clash with Egyptian giants Zamalek SC.

The Algerian side booked their place in the final following a hard-fought two-legged tie, continuing their strong continental run.

It will be their second appearance in the competition’s final, as they aim to build on their previous success in 2023 and maintain an unbeaten record at this stage of the tournament.

Ahead of the final, head coach Lamine Ndiaye acknowledged the challenge awaiting his team, particularly against a Zamalek side with extensive experience in African competitions.

“The final will not be easy for either team. Zamalek is a great club, with a wealth of experience in African competitions.

We will prepare carefully and approach these matches with the seriousness they deserve. We will take it step by step. Reaching the final is an important achievement, but we want more.

We want to be competitive and try to bring home the trophy ,” he said after the semi-final second leg.

USM Alger’s path to the final included a tense encounter with OC Safi, where the tie was disrupted by several interruptions.

Despite the challenges, Ndiaye praised his players for maintaining focus and securing qualification.

“The numerous interruptions to the game somewhat distracted our players, but the most important thing is that we achieved our objective.

We secured a well-deserved qualification despite the circumstances we faced.”

The Algerian club now turn their attention to the final, where they will attempt to secure another major continental title.

Preparation for the two-legged showdown is expected to be intense, with Ndiaye emphasising discipline and concentration as key factors.

As anticipation builds, USM Alger remain focused on the opportunity to once again lift a continental trophy and further strengthen their place in African football.
