Zamalek Keeper Mahdi Suleiman happy to reach CAF Confederation Cup final
Zamalek goalkeeper Mahdi Suleiman has expressed immense joy after his outfit secured their place in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup following a hard-fought semi-final clash.
The White Knights booked their spot in the final after a goalless draw against CR Belouizdad at Cairo International Stadium, progressing thanks to their 1-0 victory in the first leg.
“I congratulate Zamalek fans on this precious qualification. The match was extremely difficult and full of pressure.”
“We tried to score and created a number of chances, including the disallowed goal, but in the end we achieved the most important thing and succeeded in keeping a clean sheet and benefited from the victory in the first leg.”
Zamalek had to withstand intense pressure in a tightly contested encounter, but their defensive discipline, anchored by Suleiman, proved decisive as they shut out the Algerian side to secure progression.
The Egyptian giants will now await the winner of the semi-final clash between Olympique Safi and USM Alger to determine their opponent in the final.
Attention quickly shifts back to domestic action, with Zamalek set to resume training ahead of a crucial league showdown against Pyramids FC. The match, scheduled for next Thursday at Cairo International Stadium, will play a key role in the race for the league title.
Currently sitting top of the standings with 46 points, Zamalek hold a narrow two-point advantage over rivals Al Ahly and Pyramids, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter as they chase both domestic and continental glory.
