Mamelodi Sundowns and AS FAR secure minimum $2m CAF prize as Zamalek set for $1m Confederation Cup reward
Mamelodi Sundowns and AS FAR have each guaranteed themselves at least $2 million in prize money after booking places in the CAF Champions League final, underlining the growing financial stakes at the summit of African club football.
Sundowns beat Esperance to confirm their place in the final while AS FAR stunned fellow Moroccan side RS Berkane to book a place in the final.
The two finalists in the continent’s premier club competition will now compete for the ultimate crown, but regardless of the outcome, both sides have already secured a significant financial boost from their deep runs in the tournament.
For Sundowns, South Africa’s dominant force in recent years, the achievement adds further weight to their status as one of the continent’s most consistent performers.
AS FAR, representing Morocco, have also enjoyed a standout campaign to reach the final stage of the competition.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, Egyptian giants Zamalek SC, together with USM Alger, have also secured a substantial reward, with a confirmed $1 million prize for reaching the final of Africa’s second-tier club competition.
The financial incentives reflect CAF’s continued efforts to increase prize money across its interclub competitions, making progression deeper into the tournaments increasingly lucrative for participating teams.
With both finals still to be decided, attention now turns to the decisive matches that will crown Africa’s club champions — and potentially further increase the earnings for the eventual winners.
