Morocco joins US-led task force for 2026 World Cup preparations
Morocco has been included in a US-led international coordination effort as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the US Embassy in Rabat.
The Kingdom is among the partners integrated into the “White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026”, a body established to oversee and coordinate planning for the tournament across multiple agencies and countries.
The initiative is expected to focus heavily on security arrangements and operational readiness for the global event.
The task force is being led by US President Donald Trump, with Vice President JD Vance also involved, alongside senior officials from key government departments.
These include the Departments of Defense, Treasury, Transportation and Homeland Security, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Its primary objective is to ensure effective coordination between federal agencies and international partners through to the conclusion of the tournament in 2026.
The structure is designed to streamline planning efforts and strengthen cooperation on security, logistics and event management.
Morocco’s participation in the initiative is seen as part of broader collaboration between the two countries, particularly in areas linked to safety and major sporting events. The inclusion also comes in a symbolic year, marking 250 years of diplomatic relations between Morocco and the United States.
According to officials, the partnership reflects growing recognition of Morocco’s experience in security coordination, particularly following its role during recent major tournaments.
The country’s involvement in preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has been cited as an example of its organisational capabilities.
The expanded cooperation highlights the international dimension of World Cup preparations, with the 2026 edition set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
As planning continues, coordination between participating nations and partners is expected to remain a key focus.
For Morocco, inclusion in the task force places it among a select group of countries contributing to the wider operational framework of the tournament, particularly in areas related to safety and event readiness.
