Morocco unveils bold plan to uncover and develop talent nationwide

National Technical Director, Fathi Jamal, has outlined an ambitious blueprint for the future of Moroccan football, revealing a comprehensive restructuring aimed at strengthening player development and maximizing the country’s vast talent pool.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, the National Technical Director emphasized that the overhaul is part of a long-term vision to elevate the performance of national teams across all levels.

Jamal revealed that a key component of the reform is the creation of a specialized technical unit dedicated to national teams. This unit will work closely with coaches across various age groups, ensuring better coordination, improved performance, and a unified footballing philosophy from youth to senior level.

According to him, Morocco has already established itself as a breeding ground for high-quality coaches, with many now making their mark internationally—an achievement he says reflects the strength of the country’s technical education system.

A major focus of the new structure will be talent identification and monitoring. Jamal stressed the importance of tracking players consistently to ensure that promising talents are not lost during transitional phases between age categories.

“This unit will monitor all players closely so that no talent slips through the cracks,” he explained, noting that some players often shine at a certain level but fail to maintain progression due to lack of follow-up.

The initiative will be supported by a network of field specialists tasked with continuous scouting and performance analysis. In addition, Morocco’s already extensive international scouting system will play a vital role in identifying players of Moroccan descent abroad, further expanding the national talent base.

Beyond scouting, the technical unit will also oversee the organization of training camps, provide logistical and technical support to coaching staff, and ensure that development programs are harmonized across all categories—from under-15 to under-23. This coordinated approach is expected to bring consistency and stability to the national team setup.

Jamal also highlighted the growing cohesion among coaching staffs, pointing to increased collaboration within teams, including the Olympic side. He noted that stability has improved across national teams, although adjustments will still be made when required by competitive demands.

The National Technical Director further underscored the importance of collaboration with clubs, administrators, and regional leagues, stressing that their involvement is crucial to the success of the project—especially in addressing ongoing challenges related to infrastructure and stadium availability.

Concluding his address, Jamal revealed the depth of football talent across Morocco, citing a recent scouting initiative at the under-15 level that identified 96 outstanding young players.

His message was clear: Morocco is not short of talent—the mission now is to structure, nurture, and sustain it effectively to ensure long-term success on both continental and global stages.
