Al Ahly target Burkinabe midfielder Mohamed Zougrane
Egyptian giants Al Ahly have stepped up their search for a new midfield enforcer ahead of the summer transfer window, with the expected departure of Malian star Aliou Dieng forcing the club into urgent recruitment plans.
Dieng is widely reported to be on his way to Valencia CF, leaving a significant gap in Al Ahly’s midfield—one that the club is determined to fill with a high-quality defensive option.
Among the names linked with the Red Castle is Burkinabe midfielder Mohamed Zougrane, who currently plays for MC Alger.
However, the player has now moved to cool speculation, insisting that there are no concrete developments regarding a potential move to Cairo.
“I haven’t heard anything new from my agent about Al Ahly.” He said as quoted by Batolat,
He added that while he is aware of the club’s need for a defensive midfielder following Dieng’s expected exit, there have been no recent contacts or official negotiations.
Zougrane acknowledged that his name had been linked with Al Ahly SC in the past, possibly dating back to last year, but stressed that nothing new has materialized since then.
His remarks suggest that, for now, the interest remains speculative rather than active, despite ongoing reports connecting him with the Egyptian champions.
Behind the scenes, Al Ahly are believed to be evaluating several candidates as they look to reinforce one of the most crucial positions in their squad.
Aliou Dieng’s anticipated move to Valencia CF has accelerated the process, with the club keen to secure a reliable defensive midfielder capable of maintaining balance and control in the center of the pitch.
While Zougrane has downplayed current links, the situation remains fluid.
With the transfer window approaching and Al Ahly actively searching for reinforcements, a potential move cannot be completely ruled out—especially if the club decides to formalize its interest in the coming weeks.
For now, however, the message is clear: Al Ahly are searching, Zougrane is aware—but no deal is on the table yet.
