Motsepe backs CAF judicial process, awaits CAS ruling on ongoing cases
Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe has defended the integrity and professionalism of the organisation’s judicial structures, insisting that appointed judges are operating within a credible and transparent framework.
Speaking on the role of CAF’s adjudicatory bodies amid ongoing disputes within African football while addressing the media following an official visit to North Africa on Thursday, Motsepe emphasised that the officials handling cases were selected through established governance procedures.
“The CAF judges were appointed based on recommendations received from the CAF Executive Committee. They are professional and highly qualified individuals,” he said.
He acknowledged that the governing body has faced challenges in managing some of its legal and disciplinary matters, but maintained that progress is being made in strengthening the system.
“Yes, we’ve faced challenges, but we are overcoming them,” Motsepe noted, stressing CAF’s commitment to institutional stability and reform.
The CAF president also confirmed that the organisation is awaiting a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on an unspecified matter currently under review. He added that CAF would fully comply with the outcome once it is delivered.
“We await CAS’s decision, and once it is issued, we will implement it fully and transparently,” he said.
Motsepe’s remarks come as CAF continues to navigate a series of high-profile disputes, with stakeholders across African football closely watching how pending legal decisions will shape the governance of the game on the continent.
