The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, has arrived in Senegal for high-level talks aimed at calming tensions following the controversial stripping of the nation’s AFCON 2025 title.

During the visit, Motsepe is expected to meet Senegal’s Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as the leadership of the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football, including its president, Abdoulaye Fall.

The discussions come amid growing unease in Senegal over CAF’s decision, which has strained relations between the continental football body and the West African nation.

Motsepe’s mission is understood to focus on addressing concerns of bias and rebuilding trust.

The controversy stems from a ruling on March 17, when CAF’s Appeal Jury awarded a 3-0 victory to Morocco following a disputed AFCON final.

The decision overturned an earlier ruling by CAF’s Disciplinary Jury after an appeal filed by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.

CAF maintained that the reversal was based on procedural grounds, citing that Morocco’s right to be heard had not been adequately respected during the initial proceedings.

Senegal, however, has challenged the ruling and taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, seeking a final resolution to the dispute.
