Spanish Federation to take action after controversy in Egypt friendly

The Spanish Football Federation has revealed its plan to respond to FIFA following disciplinary proceedings initiated over incidents during Spain’s goalless draw with Egypt.

Fans at the stadium reportedly booed during the Egyptian national anthem and chanted slogans deemed insulting to Islam, drawing widespread condemnation from the Spanish government, the federation, and prominent figures, including coach Luis de la Fuente and star player Lamine Yamal.

FIFA, citing the match report filed by the referee, opened disciplinary proceedings against the Spanish Federation.

According to the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, the federation is approaching the investigation calmly, framing it as a routine process in cases of this nature, and expressing confidence that proper procedures were followed during the match.

In the coming days, Spain plans to submit a comprehensive report within FIFA’s appeal period. This submission will document the measures taken before, during, and after the match, including event organisation, security protocols, ticket management, and reports from the security coordinator.

The report will also include communications shared through public broadcasting, video scoreboards, and social media, highlighting the federation’s immediate response to the incidents.

The federation’s objective is to demonstrate its adherence to FIFA’s principles, reinforcing its commitment to combating racism and ensuring proper conduct in football events, while asserting that the organisation acted responsibly throughout the match against Egypt.
