Alexander Isak has delivered a significant boost to Liverpool FC after being named in the club’s travelling squad for their crucial UEFA Champions League showdown against Paris Saint-Germain.

The striker, who only recently resumed full training following a long injury layoff, was included in a 21-man squad that departed England for France on Tuesday afternoon.

Liverpool confirmed that Isak travelled with the team from John Lennon Airport as preparations intensify for Wednesday night’s quarter-final first leg at the Parc des Princes.

His inclusion represents a major step forward in his recovery after months on the sidelines. The Swedish international has not featured since suffering a serious ankle injury, including a fibula fracture, during Liverpool’s 2-1 Premier League win away to Tottenham Hotspur in December.

Liverpool head into the European tie under mounting pressure following a disappointing domestic run. A heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals last weekend further dented morale, with the club already out of both domestic cup competitions and facing an uphill battle to secure a top-four finish.

Manager Arne Slot is now looking to the Champions League as a potential route to redemption, and Isak’s return could prove pivotal. While he is unlikely to start, his presence in the squad offers a timely attacking option, particularly with Hugo Ekitike having carried the workload in recent months.

Slot had earlier indicated that the City clash came too soon for the forward but expressed hope he would be ready for the PSG encounter.

“We came to the conclusion that it was better for him to have a few more sessions than only one or two and then immediately jump into a game like this, where if you bring him in, there might be extra-time.

“The situation is now that I hope – again, I hope – that he will be available for Wednesday, but today came too early for him.”

With Isak now back in the fold, Liverpool travel to Paris with renewed belief as they seek to revive a season that increasingly hinges on European success.
