Egypt international Islam Issa has expressed heartfelt gratitude to supporters following the serious knee injury that has ended his hopes of featuring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The forward suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a friendly clash against Spain, with subsequent medical examinations confirming the extent of the injury after the team’s return.

Speaking in an interview, Issa acknowledged the wave of encouragement he has received. He stressed that the backing from fans has been vital as he begins his recovery, describing their support as deeply meaningful during a difficult period.

The injury is a significant setback for both player and country, ruling him out of the upcoming World Cup campaign.

Issa had been in impressive form during the March international break, starting in friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Spain.

He scored in the match against Saudi Arabia after 58 minutes on the pitch, before featuring for 68 minutes against Spain, where he sustained the injury.

Egypt are set to compete in Group G at the tournament, where they will face Iran, Belgium and New Zealand.
