Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal praises players after commanding win over Al Masry
Zamalek head coach Moataz Gamal has reflected on his side’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Al Masry in the Egyptian Premier League, acknowledging missed chances while applauding his players’ overall performance.
Speaking after the match, Gamal admitted his disappointment at the number of opportunities squandered but stressed that the result and display deserved recognition.
“I am sad because of the many opportunities missed in the Al-Masry match,” he said. “But I must thank the players because they gave their best, along with the great fans who deserve this joy.”
The coach also provided updates on key players, explaining that Ahmed Fatouh was withdrawn as a precaution after a heavy workload with the national team.
“He wanted to stay on the field, but we preferred to substitute him because he had played 180 minutes,” Gamal noted, highlighting concerns over injury prevention.
He also addressed the condition of Chico Banza, confirming the midfielder is dealing with a medial collateral ligament injury sustained during the Otoho match.
“This injury needs time to recover,” he said, while appreciating Banza’s presence at the stadium to support his teammates.
Gamal praised his team’s tactical flexibility, noting that adjustments were made in response to Al Masry’s approach. “We prepare for every opponent. When we conceded, we corrected our positions and quickly returned to the game,” he explained.
Turning to squad depth, the Zamalek boss highlighted the importance of experienced leader Omar Gaber alongside emerging talent Mohamed Ibrahim.
He also pointed to the club’s youth system as a source of reinforcement. “We consider the promotion of young players as new signings,” he added.
Concluding, Gamal expressed confidence in his goalkeeping department, insisting that all options are capable of performing at a high level.
“We have goalkeepers of the highest standard, and the one who is ready will play,” he said, noting the mix of senior and youth talent within the squad.
