Mohamed Salah endured a nightmare afternoon at the Etihad Stadium as Liverpool were unceremoniously dumped out of the FA Cup following a 4-0 quarter-final thrashing by Manchester City.

In what served as his final appearance at the ground in a Liverpool shirt, the Egyptian forward’s uncharacteristic wastefulness defined a frustrating exit for the Merseyside club.

The tone for Salah’s difficult day was set as early as the 14th minute. After latching onto a long, searching clearance that bypassed the City defense, Salah found himself with a clear sight of goal.

However, with the chance to give Liverpool a vital early lead, he uncharacteristically blazed his effort wide of the post.

Moments later, the veteran forward hesitated inside the box, allowing City defender Abdukodir Khusanov to execute a perfectly timed last-ditch interception just as Salah prepared to pull the trigger.

As Manchester City took control of the tie, racing to a commanding 4-0 lead, Liverpool were handed a lifeline to salvage some pride in the 64th minute.

After a foul in the area, Salah stepped up to the penalty spot—a position from which he has so often been clinical. Yet, his afternoon went from bad to worse as his strike was expertly saved by James Trafford.

The miss marked the 13th failed penalty of Salah’s career (excluding shootouts) and effectively extinguished any lingering hopes of a Liverpool fightback.

The statistics painted a bleak picture for the winger, who finished the match with two big chances missed, zero chances created, and no goals or assists to show for his efforts.

With the game well beyond reach, manager Arne Slot eventually withdrew Salah in the 78th minute, replacing him with Federico Chiesa.

Having recently confirmed his intention to depart Anfield at the end of the season, this performance marked a somber end to Salah’s storied rivalry with Manchester City.

With the FA Cup defense now over, Liverpool must turn their full attention to the UEFA Champions League, which remains their sole remaining path to silverware in Salah’s final campaign.
