Tylel Tati extends Nantes stay

FC Nantes have moved swiftly to secure the future of Franco-Senegalese defender Tylel Tati, warding off Real Madrid interest as the summer transfer window approaches.

The 18-year-old has penned a contract extension that will keep him at the French Ligue 1 outfit until summer 2030.

Tati’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable — a breakout story forged under pressure, resilience, and rapid development at the highest level.

The teenage defender was thrown straight into the intensity of Ligue 1 football at the start of the season by then-manager Luis Castro. What could have been a daunting baptism quickly turned into a statement of intent, as Tati adapted seamlessly, establishing himself as a commanding presence in Nantes’ backline.

His early performances were so convincing that the club wasted no time in rewarding him with his first professional contract in October 2025 — a clear sign of their belief in his long-term potential.

However, his journey has not been without turbulence. A managerial change saw Ahmed Kantari temporarily sideline the young defender, raising questions about his role. But adversity only sharpened his resolve.

With the arrival of Vahid Halilhodžić, Tati’s fortunes turned dramatically. Restored to the starting lineup, he has not looked back — starting all 20 matches he has featured in during the 2025–26 campaign, underlining both his consistency and importance to the team.

Despite Nantes’ success in tying him down long-term, uncertainty still looms. The extension, while a strategic move to protect their asset, may only be a temporary safeguard.

Interest from Chelsea FC, first reported last winter, remains a significant factor. With Europe’s elite clubs constantly scouting emerging defensive talents, Tati’s profile continues to rise — and so does his value.

Estimated at around €25 million, the Champigny-sur-Marne native is increasingly viewed as Nantes’ next major export. For a club known for developing and selling top prospects, the scenario feels familiar.
