Morocco selection sparks response from PSV winger Couhaib Driouech
Couhaib Driouech has reacted publicly after being left out of the Morocco squad, following the inclusion of Rayane Bounida for upcoming international fixtures.
The winger, who plays for PSV Eindhoven, appeared to express his frustration on social media after Bounida was selected by new head coach Mohamed Ouahbi.
Bounida, an attacking midfielder at Ajax, recently committed his international future to Morocco after previously representing Belgium at youth level.
His decision was quickly followed by a call-up for friendly matches against Ecuador national football team and Paraguay national football team, raising the possibility of an imminent senior debut.
Driouech, by contrast, is still awaiting his first senior appearance for the national side, having previously featured at Olympic level.
In the aftermath of the squad announcement, the 23-year-old unfollowed the Moroccan national team’s official accounts and posted a message on Instagram that suggested his disappointment.
“Some people never understand what you can bring until they see you play elsewhere,” he wrote.
The post was accompanied by images from recent European fixtures, including matches against Liverpool FC and SSC Napoli.
In those games, Driouech delivered notable performances, scoring twice in a 4-1 win at Anfield and contributing a goal and an assist in a previous encounter against Napoli.
Despite those displays, his involvement at club level has been limited this season. He has made 34 appearances in all competitions but started only six times. Across those matches, he has scored seven goals and registered five assists.
The contrasting situations of Driouech and Bounida highlight the competition for places within the Morocco setup, as new selections continue to shape the direction of the national team.
