Injury blow for Tunisia as Mejbri and Valery miss key preparations
Tunisia will be without Hannibal Mejbri and Yan Valery for their training camp in Canada after both players withdrew due to injury.
The absences come as a setback for head coach Sabri Lamouchi, who is overseeing preparations for upcoming friendly matches during the March international window.
The squad is currently based in Canada, where it is working towards fixtures against Haiti and the host nation.
Both Mejbri and Valery were forced to pull out after sustaining injuries, leaving the coaching staff without two important options.
Mejbri, who plays for Burnley, has been a key presence in midfield, known for his energy and technical ability. Meanwhile, Valery, currently with Young Boys, offers an attacking threat from the right-back position.
Their absence represents a challenge for the team at a crucial stage of preparation. With limited time before the scheduled matches, adjustments will need to be made to compensate for the loss of their contributions.
Despite this, preparations are continuing as planned. Tunisia are set to face Haiti on 29 March 2026 at 00:00 GMT, before taking on Canada during the night of 31 March to 1 April.
These fixtures form part of the FIFA international match calendar and provide an opportunity for the team to build cohesion.
The matches also mark an important phase for Lamouchi, who has recently taken charge of the national side.
The friendlies are expected to offer him a chance to assess his squad and begin implementing his tactical ideas ahead of future competitions, including the 2026 World Cup.
While the team continues its work on the pitch, attention remains on the recovery of the injured players.
The Tunisian camp has expressed its support for both Mejbri and Valery, with hopes they will return to action soon and rejoin the squad in the near future.
As preparations continue in Canada, Tunisia must adapt quickly, balancing the challenge of key absences with the need to maintain progress under their new coach.
