Algeria international goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja says his focus remains firmly on returning to action and earning a place in the national team for the World Cup, despite a prolonged injury absence.

Speaking to influencer Ilian Ikhlef, the former FC Metz goalkeeper outlined the challenges he has faced in recent months, following a cruciate ligament rupture suffered at the start of the season.

The injury has left him without a club, as he chose to prioritise recovery over immediate competition.

“I’m currently without a club because I really wanted to be able to focus on my rehabilitation in peace,” he explained, making clear that his immediate priority has been regaining full fitness.

The setback has not diminished his determination. Oukidja said he is working intensively to return to competitive football and revive his career at the highest level.

Opportunities remain under consideration, particularly in leagues where transfer windows are still open, including those in northern Europe.

“I’m doing everything I can to come back as quickly as possible,” he added, underlining his commitment to a swift return.

While his club future remains uncertain, the 35-year-old’s ambitions extend beyond domestic football. Representing Algeria again is central to his plans, with the next World Cup firmly in his sights.

“My goal remains the World Cup with Algeria, to join the squad and contribute my experience,” he affirmed.

Oukidja acknowledged that securing a place in the national setup will depend on consistent performances once he resumes playing. Finding a new club is therefore a key step in his path back to international football.

“I hope I can sign somewhere and that the national team coach can watch my matches,” he said, stressing the importance of competing regularly at a high level.

For now, FC Metz continue to support him during his rehabilitation period, offering stability as he works towards a return.

As he continues his recovery, Oukidja faces a defining phase in his career, balancing patience with ambition in pursuit of a place back at the top of the game.
