Nathan Tella extends Bayer Leverkusen contract until 2031
Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Nigerian midfielder Nathan Tella has extended his contract with the club until 2031.
The 26-year-old joined the German side in 2023 from Southampton, having previously played for Arsenal and winning the English Championship with Burnley that same year.
Despite limited playing time and intermittent injuries, Tella has impressed in the Bundesliga, registering 10 goals and 14 assists across 95 appearances in all competitions.
The club highlighted Tella’s professionalism, versatility, and influence within the dressing room as key reasons for securing his long-term future.
“We are delighted to retain Nathan for his contribution on and off the pitch,” a Bayer Leverkusen statement said, praising his commitment and strong relationship with the team.
Tella, capped twice for the Nigerian national team, expressed his desire to continue playing a central role at the club. “I am happy to be an integral and sought-after part of Bayer Leverkusen.
I intend to contribute to building a strong team capable of achieving major goals this season and in the coming years,” he said.
A versatile midfielder, Tella can operate on either wing or in a central attacking role, supporting the striker and adding depth to the squad.
He was part of the team that reached the 2024 Europa League final and has also contributed to Bundesliga, German Cup, and German Super Cup successes.
Leverkusen’s decision to extend Tella’s contract underlines their confidence in his ability to help the club compete at the highest level in Germany and Europe, while also strengthening squad continuity for the seasons ahead.
