FIFA hit Zamalek with 12th transfer ban amid mounting financial crisis
FIFA have imposed yet another sanction on Zamalek SC, as the Cairo giants face a deepening crisis following a fresh transfer ban.
The latest decision sees Zamalek barred from registering new players for three consecutive transfer windows, marking the 12th such penalty issued against the club in recent years. The update was reflected on FIFA’s official platform, although the governing body did not initially disclose the case details.
Subsequent reports have linked the sanction to unpaid dues owed to AS Saint-Étienne stemming from the transfer of Moroccan defender Mahmoud Bentayg. The outstanding amount is believed to be in the region of €500,000.
The situation leaves Zamalek in a difficult position, as the ban will remain in effect across upcoming transfer windows, limiting their ability to reinforce the squad regardless of whether the debt is settled immediately.
This latest punishment adds to a growing list of financial disputes that have plagued the club. Previous cases include unpaid salaries and compensation involving former coaches such as José Gomes and Christian Gross, as well as outstanding dues to former midfielder Ferjani Sassi.
With sanctions continuing to accumulate, Zamalek’s ongoing financial struggles are once again under the spotlight, raising serious concerns about the club’s ability to stabilise both on and off the pitch.
