Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey granted bail as Villarreal move nears completion

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, now at Villarreal, will face a preliminary hearing on two new rape allegations on April 10, 2026.

The 32-year-old has been excused from attending in person by Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram. He is accused of raping a woman twice in London in December 2020 and intends to plead not guilty, as confirmed by his lawyer Emma Fenn.

Prosecutor Arabella MacDonald told the court that the complainant came forward after seeing media coverage of earlier allegations involving Partey. These latest accusations relate to a fourth alleged victim and follow previous charges brought against the midfielder, including five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Partey’s earlier case is scheduled to go to trial in November 2026 at Southwark Crown Court. He joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for a £45m fee before moving to Villarreal in June 2025. The upcoming hearings mean his legal battles will continue to run alongside the later stages of his playing career.
