Zinedine Zidane to grace Algeria’s pre-World Cup friendly against Uruguay
Zinedine Zidane is expected to attend the upcoming international friendly between Algeria and Uruguay later this month.
The FIFA World Cup winner, who has Algerian roots, showed strong support for Algeria during the recent Africa Cup of Nations, a competition that featured his son, Luca Zidane.
The former France playmaker is now expected to be close to captain Riyad Mahrez and his teammates during the March international window.
According to reports, organizers of the Algeria–Uruguay friendly are considering inviting Zidane to perform the ceremonial kickoff. The match is scheduled for March 31 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, with promoters hoping to turn the fixture into a memorable occasion.
Such a gesture would carry symbolic value given Zidane’s deep connection with Juventus FC. The French icon starred for the Turin giants from 1996 to 2001, establishing himself as one of the club’s most influential players.
While no official confirmation has been announced regarding his appearance, the prospect of his involvement has already heightened anticipation around the match.
Organizers are also planning a vibrant pre-match spectacle. Supporters in attendance are expected to witness an elaborate light show during the teams’ entrance, with visual displays and immersive staging designed to elevate the evening’s atmosphere.
On the pitch, the fixture will serve as part of Algeria’s preparations for upcoming international competitions, including qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Prior to facing Uruguay, coach Vladimir Petković will lead his side in another friendly against Guatemala national football team on March 27 in Genoa.
