Union Sportive Monastirienne has questioned several refereeing decisions made with the assistance of VAR following its Ligue 1 encounter against Club Sportif Sfaxien, raising concerns about the video review process used during the match.

The Tunisian club confirmed it has formally requested access to the recordings from the VAR room related to the game played on 7 March at the Mustapha Ben Jannet Olympic Stadium.

In a statement, officials from Union Sportive Monastirienne said their own review of match footage suggests that certain camera angles were selected in a way they believe influenced key decisions made during the game.

The club claims that the VAR review process played a role in two major moments of the match: a goal disallowed for Monastir and another awarded to Club Sportif Sfaxien.

According to the club’s management, these refereeing calls had a significant impact on the outcome of the match, prompting them to seek clarification from the relevant authorities responsible for the competition.

Club seeks further review

Union Sportive Monastirienne’s leadership has indicated that it intends to pursue the matter further through official channels.

The club stated that it is prepared to defend its position using the legal mechanisms available within the structure of the sport, emphasising that its actions are aimed at protecting what it described as the interests and reputation of the team.

Officials believe a closer review of the VAR communications and footage could help clarify how the decisions were reached during the match.

Match disrupted in added time

The fixture, which formed part of the 23rd round of the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1, ended in tense circumstances.

During stoppage time, the referee halted the match after objects were thrown onto the pitch by supporters of Union Sportive Monastirienne.

The interruption added to an already heated atmosphere surrounding the game, which had been closely contested throughout.

The club’s request to review the VAR recordings now places renewed focus on the role of video technology in officiating matches and the transparency of decisions taken during high-stakes league fixtures.

For Union Sportive Monastirienne, the dispute remains unresolved as the club awaits a response regarding its request to examine the recordings from the VAR room.
