Benin forward Andréas Hountondji back in training Ahead of Bundesliga clash
Andréas Hountondji is poised to return to action for FC St. Pauli after several weeks out with injury, offering a boost to both his club and the Benin national football team.
Coach Alexander Blessin confirmed that the striker has passed all physical tests and is now able to increase his training workload. “Andréas Hountondji’s tests went well, and we were able to increase his workload.
He is not experiencing any pain, and we are optimistic about his return. I am certain we will be able to call upon him again soon,” Blessin said ahead of St. Pauli’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt for the 25th Bundesliga matchday.
Hountondji had been sidelined since 21 December 2025, missing several league matches and the recent Africa Cup of Nations, leaving a noticeable gap in Benin’s attack.
His absence had deprived both his club and country of a key offensive option, and his return is expected to strengthen St. Pauli as the Bundesliga season enters a crucial stage.
The striker’s comeback will also benefit Benin’s national team, which can soon call on his pace and attacking energy for upcoming international fixtures.
Hountondji has shown determination in his recovery, gradually increasing his training intensity and remaining free of pain.
Currently, Hountondji earns an annual salary of €660,000 in Germany, reflecting his role as one of St. Pauli’s important players.
His reintegration into the squad is expected to provide a welcome lift for the club as it looks to finish the season strongly.
With his progress on track, Hountondji’s return is one of the most anticipated developments for St. Pauli fans, who will hope the striker can quickly regain form and contribute to key matches in the final stages of the Bundesliga campaign.
