Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o enjoyed a memorable birthday celebration after being honoured by Paris Saint-Germain during a special visit to the Parc des Princes.

The former captain of the Cameroon national football team was invited by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to attend the club’s high-profile UEFA Champions League clash against Chelsea on Wednesday, March 11. What was expected to be a simple matchday appearance turned into a touching moment for the African football icon.

During the occasion, the entire Paris Saint-Germain squad presented Eto’o with a special signed club jersey, a symbolic gesture that left the former striker deeply moved. The shirt, autographed by the players, served as a tribute to one of Africa’s greatest footballers and a recognition of his immense contribution to the global game.

The gesture came as a birthday surprise organised by the PSG hierarchy, with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi personally ensuring the Cameroonian legend was honoured during his visit to the stadium.

Eto’o later took to social media to express his appreciation for the warm reception and thoughtful gift he received from the French champions.

“I sincerely thank you, Mr President, for this wonderful birthday gift. Your kind gesture honours me and touches me deeply,” Eto’o wrote on Instagram.

“A big thank you to Paris Saint-Germain for this welcome and this gesture, which will remain engraved in my memory. This is Paris.”

The moment added another chapter to Eto’o’s long-standing connection with European football’s elite stage. Widely regarded as one of the greatest African players of all time, the former striker enjoyed a glittering career with top clubs including FC Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea, winning multiple trophies, including the Champions League.

Now serving as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Eto’o continues to play an influential role in the development of football in Cameroon and across Africa.

His appearance at the Parc des Princes highlighted the respect he still commands within the global football community. For the former Indomitable Lions captain, the night was not just about watching elite European football but also about receiving a heartfelt tribute that made his birthday truly unforgettable.
